Services announced for man who died in Taunton River
Services have been announced for a man who was reported missing and recovered from the Taunton River on Sunday.
At about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, the Somerset Fire Department received information from the Somerset Harbor Master that 69-year-old Gary Vaslet of Attleboro had taken a dinghy onto the river from the Somerset Yacht Club on Gay Street at about 5 p.m. on Friday, but had not returned.
On Sunday morning, the State Police Air Wing identified an area of interest about one-quarter-mile south of Pratt Avenue. Searchers recovered Vaslet’s body at about 11 a.m.
Gary was a popular member of the Somerset Yacht Club who was always willing to lend a hand to his friends and family.
Nancy Fournier, the Vice Commodore of the Somerset Yacht Club, has organized a GoFundMe to pay for funeral expenses. As of this writing, the fundraiser had raised nearly $7,000.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the Foley-Cook-Hathaway Funeral Home, 126 South Main St., Attleboro.
