MA schools have 620 new virus cases, New Bedford again near the top in the state

COVID-19 among Massachusetts schools saw a decrease in student cases for the third straight week after setting a record two weeks in a row.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a total of 572 new COVID-19 cases were reported among K-12 students from May 6th to May 12th. 48 were reported for staff making the overall total in Massachusetts schools for the past week at 620.

The last report, which was for April 29 to May 5th, revealed that 669 tested positive. 604 of the positives were students and 65 were staff.

The report only includes positive cases of students and staff who have been in school for either in-person or hybrid learning. Remote learning cases are not counted.

Here are the statistics from some area cities and towns from May 6th to May 12th.

Acushnet: 2 students
Attleboro: 7 students
Dartmouth: 1 student and 1 staff
Fairhaven: 1 student and 1 staff
Fall River: 5 students and 1 staff
New Bedford: 18 students and 3 staff
Plymouth: 2 students
Seekonk: 3 students
Somerset: no cases
Swansea: 1 student
Taunton: 4 students and 1 staff
Westport: no cases

New Bedford has the 3rd most new student cases, the 2nd most staff cases and the 3rd most overall new cases in the state.
