Massachusetts COVID-19 hospitalizations and active cases continue increase as positive test rate rises to 2.55%
Massachusetts saw an increase in hospitalizations, average positive test rate, and active cases in Friday’s COVID-19 report.
Massachusetts saw 2,160 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Thursday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate increased to 2.55%. Three weeks ago from Sunday, the 1.66% registered was the lowest it had been since October 22nd.
Massachusetts had seen 2,455 more positive cases announced yesterday.
The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 602,792 with 32 more reported dead (32 confirmed, 0 probable) for a total of 17,249 (16,908 confirmed, 341 probable).
The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 19,021,962 after 93,214 new molecular tests.
The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths is currently 21.0.
Estimated active cases saw another increase to 33,424.
Hospitalizations have increased in 104 of the last 188 days and 79 of the last 147 and saw an increase of 5, to raise the total to 705. Tuesday’s 711 was the highest since March 8th. Before the previous 11 days, COVID-19 hospitalizations had been on the decrease as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. A week ago Sunday’s total of 580 was the lowest since November 7th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report
According to the April 1st report, Fall River has a 36.1 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (27.0 last week). New Bedford saw an increase to 31.4 (was 21.9). Westport saw an increase to 23.9 (was 19.6), Swansea is at 21.9 and was 17.9 last week. Somerset also saw an increase as they sit at 20.1 (was 13.1). Freetown stands at 30.0 an increase from 24.5. Dartmouth is currently at 20.2 which is the same as last week. Acushnet saw 21.9 (was 21.2).
55 Massachusetts communities are still in the red (high risk) which is up from 32 last week. 20 were in the red the week before. Abington, Adams, Athol, Ayer, Barnstable, Blackstone, Brewster, Brockton, Canton, Carver, Chicopee, Dennis, Dracut, Everett, Fall River, Framingham, Freetown, Granby, Halifax, Hampden, Hanson, Harwich, Lakeville, Lawrence, Lowell, Ludlow, Lynn, Mansfield, Mashpee, Methuen, Milford, Monson, Nantucket, New Bedford, North Attleboro, Orange, Palmer, Peabody, Pembroke, Plainville, Plymouth, Raynham, Sandwich, Saugus, Seekonk, Southboro, Springfield, Sutton, Templeton, Tyngsboro, Ware, West Boyleston, West Bridgewater, Williamstown, and Yarmouth.

• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 11,139
Massachusetts Officials have issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on April 1st.
