Massachusetts schools see record number of cases as numbers increase for 4th straight week
COVID-19 among Massachusetts schools increased for a fourth straight week which resulted in a record amount of cases along with decreases and increases in some area communities.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a total of 801 new COVID-19 cases were reported among K-12 students from March 25 to March 31. 244 were reported for staff making the overall total in Massachusetts schools for the past week at 1,045.
The last report, which was for March 18 to March 24, revealed that 669 tested positive. 682 of the positives were students and 228 were staff.
The report only includes positive cases of students and staff who have been in school for either in-person or hybrid learning. Remote learning cases are not counted.
Here are the statistics from some area cities and towns from March 25 to March 31.
Acushnet: No cases
Attleboro: 13 students and 2 staff
Dartmouth: No cases
Fairhaven: No cases
Fall River: 10 student and 5 staff
New Bedford: 11 students and 1 staff
Plymouth: No cases
Seekonk: 3 students and 1 staff
Somerset: No cases
Swansea: 3 students
Taunton: 8 students and 1 staff
Westport: 1 student
Fall River ranked 8th in the state in staff cases.
