Massachusetts COVID-19 hospitalizations drop below 700 for first time since November 12th, 52 new deaths announced

Massachusetts saw a decrease in cases, active cases, positive test rate, and hospitalizations in Saturday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 1,495 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Friday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate decreased to 1.79%. Sunday’s 1.73% was the lowest it had been since October 23rd.

Massachusetts had seen 1,677 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 557,802 with 52 more reported dead (52 confirmed, 0 probable) for a total of 16,374 (16,044 confirmed, 330 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 16,728,973 after 100,359 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths is currently 31.6.

Estimated active cases saw a decrease again to 27,190.

Hospitalizations have increased in 93 of the last 167 days and 68 of the last 126, but saw a decrease of 29, to lower the total to 687. COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to decrease as of late as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. November 12th was the last time that COVID-19 hospitalizations were this low.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the March 4th report, Fall River has a 22,7 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (27.0 last week). New Bedford saw a decrease to 23.6 (was 31.6). Westport also saw a decrease to 18.3 (was 26.4), Swansea is at 20.2 and was 27.3 last week. Somerset also saw a decrease as they sit at 21.2 (was 22.8). Freetown decreased to 32.4 from 35.5. Dartmouth is currently at 23.9 after seeing 27.7 last week. Acushnet saw 31.4 (was 41.7).

19 Massachusetts communities are still in the red (high risk). Blackstone, Chicopee, Clinton, Fall River, Freetown, Hadley, Haverhill, Lawrence, Ludlow, Lynn, Methuen, New Bedford, Peabody, Plainville, Springfield, Sterling, Sutton, West Bridgewater, and Weymouth.

As of March 6th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 28,714,163 cases of COVID-19 with 521,294 reported deaths.
