Massachusetts passes 70,000 currently active COVID-19 cases as current hospitalizations pass 1,700
Massachusetts saw yet another increase in hospitalizations and active cases in Sunday’s COVID-19 report.
Massachusetts has seen 4,677 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Saturday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate slightly increased to 5.61%. The rate was 3.3 two and a half just over two weeks ago.
Massachusetts had seen 4,968 more positive cases announced yesterday.
The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 279,574 with 41 more reported dead for a total of 11,349.
The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 9,567,575 after 90,256 new molecular tests.
The 3 day average of COVID-19 deaths decreased by 1 to 44.
Estimated active cases increased to 70,651.
Hospitalizations have increased in 67 of the last 90 days and 42 of the last 49 and saw an increase by 37 to see the total raise to 1,707.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report
According to the December 9th report, Fall River has a 92.37 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (75.3 last week) which is the tenth highest in the state. New Bedford saw a big jump to 78.80 (was 48.3). Westport is also in the red at 45.62 (was 44.8), Swansea is at 78.82 and was 51.5 last week, and Somerset saw a marked increase to 80.16 (was 50.1). Freetown also saw their rate increase as it now sits at 52.89 from 33.2. Dartmouth is currently at 51.21 after seeing 47.7 last week.
Massachusetts residents subject to COVID-19 quarantine by current status up to December 9th
• Total of individuals subject to quarantine: 139,367
• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 126,652
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 12,715
As of December 13th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 15,932,116 cases of COVID-19 with 296,818 reported deaths.
