UPDATE: Two arrested in South Shore Plaza shooting
BRAINTREE — Chief Mark Dubois reports that the Braintree Police Department has two male suspects in custody following a shooting at South Shore Plaza earlier today.
Braintree Police responded alongside numerous mutual aid partners to the South Shore Plaza on Granite Street at 4:43 p.m. Friday following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, police found a 15-year-old female had sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a shooting and was transported to an area hospital by ambulance.
The mall was placed on lock-down and the surrounding neighborhoods were asked to shelter-in-place while police actively searched for the suspects in the shooting. Both suspects were quickly located by police and placed in custody on Granite Street near the mall.
Braintree Police continue to actively investigate the incident.
Several stores locked and closed their gates and doors when the lock-down went into effect. The lock-down and shelter-in-place have both been lifted, and the mall is currently in the process of being cleared of patrons and employees and is closed for the night, as the mall normally closes at 7 p.m. The South Shore Plaza will reopen for business at its normal business hours tomorrow at 11 a.m.
“I’d like to thank each and every person who responded to assist us tonight; the Braintree Police Department is incredibly thankful and proud of the strong partnerships we have locally and regionally,” Chief Dubois said. “It is because of these strong partnerships we were able to swiftly and thoroughly search for and locate the suspects in this situation. I’d also like to thank the public, including all those in the mall who cooperated in the lock-down and those living nearby who sheltered in place– thank you for your patience and cooperation tonight.”
