Sick Massachusetts boy who asked for cards gets flooded in mail, fundraiser planned

The call was put out and boy did the public deliver.

Carlos Rolon, who has been at Boston Children’s Hospital over 100 days while waiting for a heart transplant, made one simple request. Since he has to spend Christmas in the hospital, Carlos wanted to decorate his room with Christmas cards.

Fall River Reporter, New Bedford Guide, and other news outlets put the word out and you didn’t disappoint.

According to Carlos’ mom Sheena, he has already received almost 3,000 pieces of mail in the hospital and his reaction was priceless.

“Mommy I have never been this super excited in my whole life!!!”

Sheena would like to thank everyone who has reached out and has made Carlos’ Christmas so special.

“I’m at a loss for words. What a blessing to be able to show/share how many nice and positive things that are being done instead of just reading negative stuff, heartache, and pain. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!”

Carlos has received pieces of mail from states such as Florida, California, Michigan, Texas, Wyoming, and Hawaii. He has even received some Christmas presents.

A heart transplant survivor has also planned a run and Christmas card pickup to raise money for Carlos’ family.

Air Force Veteran Conor Sullivan had his transplant two years ago and knows how difficult it can be on the family.

“During my own heart transplant journey, my family was constantly spending money on airfare to Arkansas while I was there, transportation to and from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, parking, comfort items in my room, medication, etc. All of this while missing work shifts and working as much as they could to still take care of themselves and live normal lives.”

On Sunday December 22nd Conor will run 50 miles from Carlos’ hometown of Worcester to Boston Children’s Hospital to raise money. Along the way he will have a chase vehicle carrying Christmas cards.
