DCYF confirms likely maltreatment of two children recently
DCYF recently investigated the condition of two children brought to a hospital.
A nine-year-old female youth from Providence was admitted to Hasbro Children’s Hospital on July 31 because of a chronic medical condition. The child had prior DCYF involvement, but was not open to the Department at the time of her admission to the hospital.
Also a fourteen-year-old female from Newport was admitted to Hasbro Children’s Hospital on July 16 because of a chronic medical condition. The family had prior DCYF involvement, but was not open to the Department at the time of the youth’s admission to the hospital.
The Department initiated an investigation, and through this investigation, DCYF has confirmed that the condition of both children was likely due to maltreatment.
Pursuant to state law, DCYF notified the Office of the Child Advocate of the report. Due to confidentiality laws, DCYF are prohibited from sharing additional information.
