[Fall River, MA, August 5, 2019] – On Tuesday July 16th 2019, The Friends of Jack Foundation donated a brand new baby warmer with a price tag of over $18,500 to Charlton Memorial Hospital. This key piece of equipment is one of many initiatives that the Friends of Jack Foundation has instituted from it’s over $250,000 raised in FY-2018.

“Most newly-admitted infants are cared for on radiant warmer beds in order to provide accessibility for resuscitation or procedures without jeopardizing thermal stability. As long as an infant remains critically ill and is likely to require resuscitation or frequent procedures, he should be kept on a warmer bed. Most very small infants (<1000 grams) can be kept warm more easily on a radiant warmer than in an incubator, since incubator air temperature drops rapidly when the door is opened. If a very small infant has difficulty maintaining normal body temperature on a radiant warmer, plastic food wrap can be stretched across the bed (from side to side). This reduces the movement of cool air over the baby's body surface.” - Edward F. Bell, MD “We are overwhelmed and honored by the response of our amazing community, which came together to help the Friends of Jack purchase this much-needed piece of medical equipment for compromised newborns at Charlton Hospital. One of the goals of our foundation is to provide our area hospitals with equipment that keeps babies close to home, especially those who are born prematurely or require additional intervention. It is best for baby and family to get home as quickly as possible, and this baby warmer will help to achieve that goal.” – Jill Fearons, Friends of Jack Foundation Founder
