Middleboro student charged with making terroristic threats
MIDDLEBOROUGH — Chief Joseph Perkins and Superintendent Brian Lynch report that a Nichols Middle School student has been charged after making threats to harm a group of students over the weekend.
A juvenile boy, 13, was charged with:
-Threats to Commit a Crime (8 Counts)
-Making Terroristic Threats
The boy was issued a summons to appear in juvenile court at a later date.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, Middleborough Police received reports from concerned parents that the boy had threatened their children. School was cancelled today because of the snowstorm.
Middleborough Police immediately launched an investigation and learned that the boy had made the threats via Instagram.
A search warrant was obtained for the boy’s home, where no weapons were found and it was determined that the threat was not credible.School will be open Tuesday on its regular schedule.
“We take threats of any kind seriously,” Chief Perkins said. “There is no such thing as joking around when it comes to violence in school and this type of behavior will not be tolerated.”
Superintendent Brian Lynch said, “I want to thank the Middleborough Police for their efforts in quickly resolving this matter. The safety of our students is our top priority and we applaud the children who told their parents about this incident so that it could be properly investigated.”
