Fall River Forever Paws Animal Shelter seeks community help to save dog’s life

Forever Paws Animal Shelter is asking the public for donations to help cover emergency medical costs for a French bulldog named Lovebug.

According to a social media post from the shelter, Lovebug recently underwent airway surgery to correct issues with her nares and palate. The procedures went well, and the shelter also had her spayed at the same time to avoid a second round of anesthesia.

Complications have since developed from the spay. The shelter said her incision ruptured internally, allowing her bowel to protrude through the opening. This is putting pressure on other organs and placing her at risk for sepsis. An emergency veterinarian told the shelter the issue is not the result of surgical error but an unfortunate complication, which the shelter noted is not uncommon with French bulldogs.

The estimated cost for surgery and hospitalization is $8,000.
