While a local man is being held without bail, a young victim is still fighting for her life.
The Providence Police Department had announced that an adult woman and her 2-year-old daughter had been stabbed in the area of Broad and Public Streets on Wednesday.
46-year-old Nelson Blanco was charged with:
- Assault with Intent to Commit Murder involving an adult female victim
- Assault with Intent to Commit Murder involving a 2-year-old child
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon
- Breaking and Entering into a Dwelling Occupied by a Person Over 60
- Possession of a Knife During the Commission of a Crime of Violence
- Possession of a Knife with a Blade Longer Than 3 Inches
Both victims were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Blanco was held without bail at arraignment Thursday in what has been described as a random attack.
He has an extensive criminal and mental health history. According to Go Local Prov, Blanco has a history of arrests including being accused of critically injuring two 7-year-old boys with a knife and being ruled incompetent.
A GoFundMe fundraiser from family states that the 2-year-old is still in critical condition.
The funds from this fundraiser are reportedly to cover follow-up care, including the daughter’s medical expenses and the mother’s mental health care.
