A bank robbery suspect has been identified after an investigation by Fall River Police and the FBI.
According to police, on September 18th, officers from the Fall River Police Department responded to Saint Anne’s Credit Union on President Avenue for a reported bank robbery.
Investigators learned that a male entered the credit union, approached a teller, and passed several handwritten notes. One of the notes requested $1,500 and indicated that his family would otherwise be homeless. The teller provided the suspect with approximately $500 before the individual left the bank on foot.
Our Major Crimes Division immediately began working to identify the individual.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the credit union and then worked backward and forward from the time of the robbery, reviewing additional private and City surveillance cameras throughout the area. That work allowed investigators to reconstruct a significant portion of the suspect’s movements before and after the robbery.
Photographs obtained during the investigation were also shared with federal partners at the FBI.
As a result of the investigation, 41-year-old Marc Salgado was identified as the suspect less than a week later, and detectives applied for an arrest warrant charging him with the Robbery.
FRPD noted that cameras and technology can provide leads, but it is the follow-up, reviewing hours of video, retracing movements, interviewing witnesses, comparing evidence, and corroborating information, that turns those leads into a case.
On Monday, Detectives were able to take Salgado into custody as he was exiting the MBTA commuter train in Taunton.
Court records show that he was arraigned Monday in Fall River District Court where he pled not guilty. He is being held on $25,000 bond/$2,500 cash bail with a probable cause hearing scheduled for October 7th.
