Former Bristol Community College basketball player killed in Rhode Island pedestrian crash

A weekend highway collision between a vehicle and pedestrian turned deadly in Rhode Island.

According to Rhode Island State Police, at just before 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, Troopers from the Rhode Island State Police Lincoln Woods Barracks received multiple 911 calls reporting a pedestrian walking in the lanes of travel on Route 95 North, near the exit 40 off-ramp in Pawtucket.

Upon arrival in the area, Troopers observed several vehicles in the right breakdown lane. Troopers also located a deceased male in the center lane. All vehicles involved remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.

The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Dominic Santos of Pawtucket.

Santos graduated from Bristol Community College in 2020 with a degree in Behavioral and Social Sciences and played on the basketball team, where his coach said he always put the team first. He later attended Rhode Island College. Those who knew him described him as a great person and friend. He leaves behind a young son.

No citations or criminal charges have been brought against any of the drivers.
