The Fall River Zoning Board of Appeals allowed a project to move forward Thursday that would bring nearly two dozen new apartment units to the city.
Rodman Street LLC c/o Attorney Peter A. Saulino went in front of the Board requesting a Special Permit for 698 Rodman Street to allow the construction of a six-story, 22-unit residential apartment building on the property, requesting a waiver of the loading space requirement of the Fall River Zoning Ordinance as it’s in a commercial district.
The project would consist of 12 three-bedroom and 10 two-bedroom units.
It was noted that the relief requested is minimal and the project already meets all setback, parking, and dimensional requirements. By right the property could be used for a myriad of commercial purposes.
A resident expressed opposition to the project stating that with 1 family homes across the neighborhood that the structure would be a disruption, in addition to blocking sunlight, and causing more traffic in an already high-volume area.
In 2019 the Board granted a Special Permit to build 8 townhouse style units on the property, but the project never came to fruition. The property previously housed the decaying Global Glass facility before it was demolished for the proposal.
The Board unanimously approved the Special Permit allowing the 22 units to proceed in the approval process.
