A southeastern Massachusetts college freshman was seriously injured after another vehicle collided with the vehicle he was operating.
According to family and a GoFundMe fundraiser, 18-year-old Dylan Rauch is currently in the ICU following a serious car accident on Thursday.
“Dylan is a bright, loving young man with a huge heart and a deep passion for music, theatre, and the arts. He plays the flute and recently began his freshman year at Bridgewater (State University), where he is studying music theory and was so excited to begin this new chapter of his life.”
According to Fire Chief Neil Foley and Police Chief Dana Flynn, at just after 11:45 a.m., Plymouth Police and Fire responded to the area of Plympton Road (Route 80) and Carver Road near the West Plymouth Square shopping plaza for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash. Upon their arrival, crews found that an SUV and sedan had collided head-on.
The driver of the sedan, Rauch, was heavily entrapped and had to be freed by firefighters using hydraulic extrication tools. He was taken by Brewster Ambulance to a landing zone at the Plymouth Municipal Airport, where he was transported via medical helicopter to a Boston Trauma center.
The driver of the SUV, a juvenile female, was transported to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
According to multiple reports, the 17-year-old juvenile driver of the SUV initially took off on foot after a well-being check by Kingston Police that was requested by her family. She then took a family member’s vehicle and led police on a chase while driving erratically before the pursuit was stopped for safety concerns.
The crash remains under investigation by the Plymouth Police Department.
