Community mourns beloved Fall River man Gerry Mello, remembered for sense of humor, love of sports

A beloved Fall River man has died.

79-year-old Gerald “Gerry” Mello passed away on Sunday.

Gerry was actively involved with Greater Fall River RE-CREATION and had also worked as part of People Incorporated.

He also loved his sports. He could be seen wearing Patriots or Red Sox gear and loved talking about his favorite teams.

Gerry had a friendly personality and could also be a little bit of a ham in the best way.

According to an obituary, “Gerry found joy in life’s simple pleasures, such as savoring his daily coffee from Sip N Dip on South Main Street. He took great satisfaction in raking leaves during the colorful autumn months and shoveling snow in the quiet of winter.”

Greater Fall River RE-CREATION told Fall River Reporter about the impact Mello had on their community.

“He was such a gem with our organization. Our staff truly loved him…Our director Grace loved him as if he were her own son. Whenever we have our senior socials, he was always guaranteed a dance from several of our female staff. It absolutely made his day that much better. Gerry always treated us with kindness and love. He made us laugh so much. We all miss him very much.”

Services are private through Auclair Funeral Home.
