A local man was sentenced to prison this week after a shooting that killed a Fall River woman.
According to information previously released by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 11:00 p.m. on September 21st, 2022, Taunton Police received a 911 call from an apartment on Tremont Street regarding a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
When first responders arrived, they located the victim, later identified as 26-year-old Colby Dowling, of Fall River. Dowling was declared deceased at the scene.
A house party was reportedly taking place with several people present.
Court records show that in September of 2023, Keven Djony Miranda Andrade was indicted on Manslaughter, and Carrying a Firearm Without a License charges.
On Wednesday, Andrade was sentenced to not less than 8 years to not more than 10 years in prison.
According to the Taunton Gazette, the prosecution presented a witness who testified to seeing Andrade extend his arm with the gun in hand and shoot Dowling in the head with one shot. His attorney argued that the shooting was accidental and self-inflicted as witnesses saw her briefly holding the gun in her hand shortly before the weapon discharged. He framed the incident as a tragic mix of excessive alcohol, marijuana, and a deadly weapon.
Family members say that Dowling was a curious, compassionate, and generous young woman who loved animals and children. Known for lighting up a room, she was the kindest of friends and a devoted “Auntie” to many of her friends’ kids. She left behind many friends who remember her as both beautiful and deeply kind.
