Several people have been injured after an afternoon school bus collision.
According to Somerset Police, at just before 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, the dispatch center received several 9-1-1 calls regarding a motor vehicle accident involving a car and a school bus in the area of Brayton Point Road between Wilbur Avenue and Butler Street.
Upon arrival, officers indicated that there were minor injuries involved, however none of these injuries involved students on the school bus.
It was determined that the car left their lane of travel prior to striking the school bus head on. The operator of the car stated they fell asleep at the wheel, there are no indications of intoxication or substance use. The driver was transported to the hospital by Somerset Rescue.
Some students were picked up by their families at the scene of the accident. The remaining students are being transported back to the Middle School by another school bus at the instruction of Dr. Jeffrey Schoonover, superintendent, who was on scene as well.
Both the school bus and vehicle were towed by Gaskells Towing.
