26-year-old Rhode Island man killed in Massachusetts highway crash leaves behind young daughter as services announced

A young man who died after a fatal highway crash this weekend has been identified.

According to Massachusetts State Police, at just after 10:45 p.m. on Saturday evening, Troopers from the Millbury barracks responded to reports of a crash at Route 146 South, south of exit 1in Uxbridge.

The driver of Honda Accord, a 26-year-old Rhode Island man, had been ejected from his vehicle at the time of the crash.  EMS transported the man to a local hospital, and was later pronounced deceased after succumbing to his injuries.

According to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, Caleb Butler of Cumberland is the deceased.

The driver and an occupant of a Tesla involved in the crash, were also transported to a local hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Rote 146 South in the area was closed for some time while investigators from Collision Analysis and Reconstruction along with Crime Scene services and the state police detective unit assigned to the Worcester DA’s office processed the scene.  The scene was cleared and reopened shortly after 2:00 a.m.

An obituary stated that Caleb enjoyed the outdoors, particularly fishing, swimming, hiking and playing golf. Those who love him remember his outgoing, kind-hearted nature. He was the type of person that would do anything for anyone.

He leaves behind a young daughter.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Caleb’s Life Celebration to be held with Visitation on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 5 to 8 PM and continue Friday, August 7, 2026 at 10 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A prayer service will be held at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Arnolds Mills Cemetery, Cumberland.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation at this time.
