A man is dead after a Rhode Island motorcycle crash that appears to have been a tragic accident.

According to Chief Mark Carrier, on Wednesday at just after 11:15 p.m., Officers from the Hopkinton Police Department responded to Clarks Falls Road between Kuehn Road and Pine Woods Road for a report of a Motorcycle Accident.

Upon arrival, Officers located 61-year-old Donald Hopkins Jr. unresponsive in the wood line as well as his motorcycle lying on the side of the roadway.

Police believe that Hopkins was traveling from Main Street towards the Connecticut line on Clarks Falls Road. The initial investigation shows that the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a rock, causing the operator to lose control.

The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved, and no foul play is suspected at this time.

The Ashaway Fire Department and the Ashaway Ambulance responded and assisted on the scene.

Hopkins was transported by the Ashaway Ambulance to Westerly Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A woman who stated that she was Hopkins’ daughter stated he was a gentle giant and who she got her bubbly personality and biggest smile from. Others described what a great man he was.

Services for Hopkins have not yet been announced.
