31-year-old Massachusetts man dead after violent crash into lodging on Route 1
A Massachusetts man is dead after a horrific crash that also damaged an inn.
According to police, at about 4:00 p.m. on Monday, the Westwood Police and Fire Departments responded to the Budget Inn, 71 Providence Highway (Route 1), for a single car motor vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, they found a Nissan Rogue had struck a utility pole, causing it to fall and disrupt power in the area. The vehicle continued on and struck the Budget Inn, causing significant non-structural damage.
The Fire Department extracted the operator, a 32-year-old Walpole man, and transported him to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston with serious life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced deceased.
Massachusetts State Police also responded, and utility companies worked through the night to restore service. Westwood Police Department Detectives are actively collaborating with the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section (C.A.R.S.) to determine the cause of the crash.
