18-year-old facing multiple felony charges after allegedly brandishing a weapon at a southeastern Massachusetts prom
A Massachusetts teen is facing charges after allegedly displaying a weapon at a high school prom.
According to police, on Thursday at approximately 7:15 p.m., the Kingston Police Department responded to Indian Pond Country Club, located at 60 Country Club Way in Kingston, for a disturbance occurring during the South Shore Technical High School prom dance. An on-site police detail officer requested assistance from patrol units following reports of a male party displaying a firearm in the parking lot.
Initial investigation revealed that 18-year-old Adrian Arroyo, of Randolph, is not a student at the school but was attending the prom due to a previous relationship with an attendee. Investigators learned that a verbal argument ensued and Arroyo was joined in the parking lot with two female attendees where the argument escalated.
The investigation alleges that Arroyo then threatened to strike a student with his vehicle and brandished a black firearm, pointing it into the air, and appearing to “rack” the weapon, potentially loading a round into the chamber. The weapon was described as a black in color semi-automatic style pistol. Arroyo then fled the area in his vehicle prior to officers arriving in the parking lot.
Patrol officers immediately canvassed the area, conducted multiple witness interviews, maintained an increased police presence at the prom, and issued a regional law enforcement bulletin regarding the suspect and vehicle involved.
Through the subsequent investigation, Randolph PD located Arroyo at his residence in Randolph. After some time of officers surrounding the residence, he surrendered peacefully. Randolph PD subsequently transferred custody of Arroyo to Kingston PD.
Simultaneously, Kingston PD Detectives worked to obtain and execute a court authorized search warrant at Arroyo’s Randolph residence. Based on facts known, including review of surveillance video, detectives believed he may have stored the weapon in another vehicle on the property. Detectives subsequently located and seized a black Crossman BB gun replica pistol stored in the glovebox of a vehicle at Arroyo’s residence. No firearms were located and this BB gun was consistent with the physical description by the victims.
Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and are turning the case over to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
No injuries were reported during this incident. Due to the quick response and effective investigation, the suspect is in custody and there is no public safety risk at this time.
Arroyo was arraigned in Plymouth District Court this morning on multiple felony charges, including Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. He pled not guilty and was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on June 2nd.
All parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
