Officials have confirmed that a person jumped off of a local bridge on Sunday.

A call came into dispatch at approximately 7:00 a.m. for a jumper off of the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge.

According to North Kingstown Fire Chief Scott Kettelle, the fire department received reports of an unattended automobile atop the bridge.

Upon arrival, the police had reason to believe a person went over the side. While fire and marine assets were enroute, the fire department was notified that a civilian vessel fishing in the area witnessed the person enter the water and immediately approached and pulled the victim onto their boat. The vessel brought the victim to a residential dock in Jamestown where North Kingstown and Jamestown fire rescue personnel treated the jumper.

Kettelle stated that Jamestown personnel transported the man to Newport Hospital where his condition is unknown.

Recently, there has been a string of fatal bridge jumping attempts including one in July.
