An athlete from Fall River Public Schools has received a major honor.

According to Fall River Public Schools, Durfee senior Avery Antunes has been named the Peter Foley Student-Athlete of the Year by the Eastern Massachusetts Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association, a prestigious regional honor recognizing excellence in the pool, the classroom, and the community.

“Avery is the epitome of a student-athlete here at Durfee,” said Durfee Swim & Dive Coach Christopher Poliseno. “An all-star in the classroom, the community, and in her sport. I am so proud of her and ecstatic to see her get recognition for the hard work she puts into her sport and grades. It is a much-deserved award to a girl who works so hard here at Durfee.”

Fall River Reporter asked Avery’s mother, Bethany, about her daughter.

“We are beyond proud of the woman she’s become and feel very blessed. People give us a lot of credit, but honestly, she’s always been such a great kid and made our job pretty easy.”

Congratulations Avery!
