Westport Police issue update after three crashes in one hour on Route 6 results in injuries, cruiser hit, fuel spill from semi-truck
Multiple crashes led to the shutdown of an area road, multiple injuries, and a fuel spill.
According to Westport Police Lieutenant Bryan McCarthy, on Tuesday, Westport Police and Westport Fire responded to three separate motor vehicle crashes on Route 6 within a one-hour time frame. Ambulances transported several patients with non-life-threatening injuries to local hospitals.
As a result of the crashes, Route 6 eastbound and westbound between Davis Road and Route 88 was closed for approximately three hours. One of the incidents involved a semi-truck that was struck, causing diesel fuel to leak onto the roadway. Hazardous materials crews responded and worked to safely contain and clean up the fuel spill.
During the investigation of one of the crashes, a marked Westport Police cruiser was struck by another vehicle. The officer was outside of the cruiser at the time of impact and was not injured.
The diesel fuel spill was cleaned up by Frank Corp.
The Westport Police Department thanked the Massachusetts State Police, Big Wheels Towing, and MassDOT for their assistance during the incident.
