It’s outrageous and unAmerican — and it must stop; Warren calls out Trump officials after immigrants pulled from Massachusetts citizenship ceremony

Elizabeth Warren took to social media to express her displeasure after a naturalization ceremony in Massachusetts.

The U.S. Senator from Massachusetts stated that at a citizenship ceremony, Trump officials asked immigrants: “what country are you from?” Instead of being allowed to pledge allegiance to America, some were rejected due to where they were born. This happened in Boston. It’s outrageous and unAmerican — and it must stop.”

According to WGBH, on Thursday, a naturalization ceremony at Boston’s historic Faneuil Hall turned chaotic when U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officials pulled several approved immigrants from the line moments before the Oath of Allegiance, preventing them from completing the final step to U.S. citizenship.

The affected individuals, who had passed extensive background checks, interviews, and tests, were singled out based on their countries of origin under a new Trump administration policy deeming certain nations “high-risk.”

Officials reportedly asked attendees about their nationalities; those from flagged countries—such as Haiti, Venezuela, or others on a list of 19—were ordered to step aside, leaving them devastated and fearful, according to witnesses and advocates like Gail Breslow of Project Citizenship.

One Haitian woman, who arrived despite a late cancellation notice, was among those barred, describing the experience as “plucked out of line.”
