Massachusetts State Police: Two dead, two others injured after crash on Route 140

Massachusetts State Police are investigating a double fatal crash that occurred early Saturday morning.

According to of Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 2:00 a.m., State Police responded to a single-car crash with life-threatening injuries along Route 140 South at mile marker 2.1 in New Bedford. 

On scene, Troopers discovered a 2019 Honda Civic with significant damage off of the road and one of the occupants deceased on scene. First responders transported the remaining three occupants to a local hospital. Unfortunately, following the transport, a second occupant succumbed to their injuries. 

The State Police Crash Analysis Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Bristol County State Police Detective Unit responded to the scene to investigate while traffic continued to pass in the breakdown lane. 

Shortly after 5:00 a.m., the road reopened to normal traffic. 

The State Police offered our condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.

No information is available regarding their identities until the appropriate notifications can be made.
