Halloween event planned, online fundraiser created, for Fall River boy diagnosed with rare, aggressive form of cancer

A Fall River boy and his parents are dealing with circumstances that no young family should have to endure.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, “in April 2025, Shana & Ryan’s now three-year-old son, Maverick, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer. What started as sudden, unexplained pain quickly turned into every parent’s nightmare. Doctors discovered a tumor on his kidney that had ruptured, and on April 30th, Maverick underwent emergency surgery to remove the kidney. Because the tumor ruptured during the operation, his diagnosis was escalated to stage 3 cancer.”

Since then, Maverick has shown immense strength and bravery for such a young boy dealing with radiation and many weeks of intensive chemotherapy.

His parents are doing everything in their power to stay by his side every step of the way—but the emotional toll, time away from work, hospital visits, and ongoing medical needs have placed a huge financial burden on the family.

A fundraiser named #MagicForMaverick is being held on October 25th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Empire Hyundai of Fall River to support Maverick and his family.

The event will feature a Trunk or Treat for kids (bring your costume), food trucks, face painting, a huge raffle, a silent auction, music and more!

Some raffle prizes include a one-hour photo session for you & your family, gift certificates to local establishments, dog training packages, dog boarding gift certificates, raffle baskets from lots of local business

To get in on the fun, a $5 donation per adult is requested. Kids get in free.
