81-year-old Rhode Island man accused of crimes against a child he knew for multiple years

Kent County, RI – As a result of a joint investigation conducted by detectives with the Coventry and West Greenwich Police Department, Robert Leonard, 81 years-old of Sharpe St., West Greenwich, was taken into custody at his home last week.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Leonard had allegedly molested a juvenile, known to the offender, at locations within the Town of Coventry and the Town of West Greenwich. These incidents occurred over the span of a couple years.

At the conclusion of the investigation, an Affidavit and Arrest Warrant was prepared, and ultimately signed by Judge Ippolito.

After Leonard was taken into custody, he was transported to West Greenwich Police Headquarters. There he was processed and presented before a Bail Commissioner for arraignment.

Leonard was subsequently charged by the West Greenwich Police Department with First Degree Child Molestation, Second Degree Child Molestation, and Indecent Exposure. Leonard was also charged by the Coventry Police Department with Second Degree Child
Molestation.

At the conclusion of the arraignment, Leonard was ordered to be Held Without Bail and remanded to the Adult Correctional Institution.
