5th Annual COMIC-CON one of many activities coming to Fall River this month
Here are some of the special events happening at the Fall River Public Library this month at 104 North Main Street.
Take-home Children’s Crafts: Each week brings a different fun take-home craft, with spring themes including flowers, bumblebees, and turtles.
Teen Rubber Cement Watercolor Craft, Monday, May 8 at 6 pm. A unique, creative art program for ages 12-18. Registration not required, walk-ins welcome while supplies last.
Get Started Painting! Tuesday, May 9 at 6 pm. Local artist Lori Bradley leads this painting workshop for beginners through experienced artists. All materials are provided. Sponsored by the Friends of the Fall River Public Library, with support from the Fall River Cultural Council. This adult program is free and registration is not required; walk-ins welcome while supplies last.
The Power of the Protest Song, Monday, May 15 at 6 pm. Musician Pamela Means explores the history of music as an instrument of social change from the past through the present day, performing a mixture of original songs and select covers. This free program is sponsored by the Fall River Cultural Council.
Reiki Meditation for Children, Saturday, May 20 at 11 am. Join Etereo Scents and Wellness of Fall River for a unique Reiki Infused Meditation program for kids ages 4 to 10. The class will include information about Reiki, a mini healing, intro to meditation, and other fun activities. Bring water to stay hydrated and be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
Micro-Adventures in Massachusetts, Tuesday, May 23 at 6 pm. Take an armchair adventure with Alison O’Leary, author of AMC Best Day Hikes in Massachusetts. She will discuss a dozen day trip options for hiking, kayaking, and outdoor exploration.
Family LEGO Night, Wednesday, May 24 at 6 pm. This month’s LEGO challenge: build a house of the future! Registration not required.
Zen Zone: Reiki Meditation, Thursday, May 25 at 6 pm. Adults are invited to join Etereo Scents & Wellness of Fall River for a unique Reiki Infused Meditation. The class will include information about Reiki, a mini healing, meditation instruction and other activities. Bring water to stay hydrated and be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. 5th Annual Library COMIC-CON, Saturday, May 27, 11 am on the front lawn. Don’t miss this super-fun event with activities, games, and displays for the entire family! Have your picture taken with your favorite superheroes, including Spider-Man, Batman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Raphael, Rogue and more! Meet a giant-sized GROOT! Successfully complete the Guardians of the Galaxy scavenger hunt and be eligible to win a gift basket filled with cool prizes. Children and young adults are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite superhero, pop, or manga character and participate in the annual Costume Contest. Registration not required, costumes welcome!
There are also the regular weekly and monthly programs, such as Preschool Storytime (Tuesdays at 11 am); Teen Magic: the Gathering (Wednesdays at 5 pm); Royal Readers Club (Monday, May 22 at 4 pm); Middle Grade Book Club (Tuesday, May 16 at 5 pm); Books & Tea (Wednesday, May 17 at 2 pm); and Teen Anime Club (Tuesday, May 30 at 6 pm).
