5 injured, 2 with life-threatening injuries, after wrong way crash on Route 9
A serious crash Saturday evening has left multiple people hurt, some of which are fighting for their life.
According to Fire Chief Patrick Purcell, On Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 9:55pm Westborough Public Safety Dispatchers received 911 calls reporting an auto accident at 299 Turnpike Road (Route 9 westbound). Westborough Fire and Police were dispatched and arrived to find a two vehicle crash with five people injured. Westborough firefighters utilized hydraulic tools to free one occupant who was heavily entrapped.
All occupants were transported to a local trauma center by fire department paramedics from Westborough, Northborough, and Southborough. Two occupants sustained life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation by Westborough Police Department shows that a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Route 9 collided with a vehicle that was traveling west.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Route 9 remained closed for approximately three hours for the investigation and removal of the vehicles. Westborough Public Works assisted on scene with containment of an oil spill.
