Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois announced Tuesday that 42-year-old Shawn O’Hara of Hyannis was arraigned in the Barnstable District Court for his role relating to the death of a 36-year-old woman in the town of Barnstable.

On Saturday, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Barnstable Police Department was dispatched to a home for a report of an unresponsive female/overdose. The female was later pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital.

O’Hara was arraigned Tuesday morning in the Barnstable District Court on the charges of Manslaughter, Possess Class A Drug, and Subsequent offense of Possess Class B Drug.

The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Barnstable Police Department and the State Police Detectives Unit Assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office.

The Commonwealth requested $75,000 bail with conditions of remaining drug free with screens. The court set bail in the amount of $10,000.

O’Hara is due back in the Barnstable District Court on July 31, 2024, for a Probable Cause Hearing.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Patterson will be prosecuting the case.

They have already just slapped his wrist WHY DID THEY DECREASE the amount of bail down from $75,000 to just $10,000. He can afford drugs he can afford the bail or KEEP HIM IN JAIL!!! His actions killed somebody’s family!!!!! And yes I’ve had someone killed by someone’s actions of giving them illegal drugs. Our Courts are a JOKE!!!!! Let’s see what happens in other countries hmmmmm. I’ll bet this drug addict gets out on probation and misses all his court appointed appearances now what we look for him
For years until kills again or himself. I gave up on innocent UNTIL PROVEN guilty. Condolences to the family and friends of the person he killed 🙏✝️🙏

I don’t think that it’s fair to blame him whoever took the drugs we old enough to make your own decision made the choice they’ve grown 36 year old woman is grown she knows right from wrong nobody’s fault except for the person who decided to get and do the drugs. blaming the drug dealer is just a cop out!! If you’re injecting drugs into your body, nobody is killing you. You’re killing yourself

That’s a 50/50 yes you’re responsible because I’m a recovering addict myself I was a user IV user but I will not do that ever again because the drugs now I’m going to potent and I feel like it’s like playing Russian roulette with your life but the dealer should have let her know how strong it was they know what they’re selling and he needs to be held accountable that’s like putting a gun to her he put the gun to her head and she chose to shoot it. These people that sell these drugs are let out on bail they shouldn’t they should be held on a dangerous hearing because that’s someone’s daughter mother granddaughter whatever and the majority of there’s a few barnstable district judges who have lost their kids to drug overdoses so I’m a little bit on the fence with him being released or given a $10,000 bill I don’t agree with that he should have been held because he’s just going to get out and sell some more

This is ridiculous it is not the dealers fault only a still using addict would want to shift blame on someone else. It’s not the dealers job to try there own drugs and know how strong they are lol wth anyhow it’s all illegal and wrong but it’s the victim’s responsibility to take care of there bodies . Your response was ignorant

Are you stupid? These drugs are illegal, if these aholes weren’t selling them people wouldn’t be dying, Why can’t they get a real job? Stop taking advantage of these addicts that need help!!

OMG! What is wrong with you and others supporting a drug dealer! You’re nuts! Well then you go but from them, maybe you already do. Sick in the head! If doing this gets rid of the pieces OS, then so be it, charge them with murder, for money! They’ve got to get a hold of this situation sooner then later. Karma, you best hope someone you know does not pass away like this woman and thousands+ of others have.

Guys, this was his girlfriend of 13 years, whom he also has a child with. It’s not a dealer/user situation, it’s two people who have struggled with drugs (their daughter was born addicted 10 years ago) off and on their entire lives. Both have done time for A&B on eachother, both have done time for OUI and drug charges. This is a tragic end to a struggling young woman’s life and her partner now has to live with the consequences of his actions, and now face the charges as well. Everything is not always as it seeems.
