UPDATE: 3 short chimneys to come down this weekend at new time at Brayton Point, more details released

UPDATE: According to the Somerset Fire Department, the chimneys will now come down on Sunday at 8:00 a.m.

CDC has released more information on the Brayton Point implosion/dismantling.

According to the company, the plans have undergone rigorous technical and safety review from the above organizations over the last several weeks and months (including National Grid, who has extensive and expensive infrastructure very close to the towers).

There will be mobile road signs on the highways, updates and information in the local media (papers, radio, television, etc.), and flyers shared with the residents living near the site.

 The 3 short chimneys south of the powerhouse will be felled on Saturday, March 23rd.
 The 2 cooling towers will be imploded on Saturday, April 27th.

Both events are planned to occur during the morning hours – exact times TBD, but close to 8am, and the respective following Sundays are the backup days if a significant weather delay were to occur.
DAY-OF Activities that the nearby public can expect:

Maritime patrols will ensure all boats are at a safe distance from the site.
State and local police will enact traffic control measures, and only local traffic will be allowed past certain points.

(EMERGENCY VEHICLES WILL HAVE FULL ACCESS IN & OUT OF ALL TRAFFIC CONTROL MEASURES)
At 2 minutes prior to the event, two long sirens (air horn or police-type siren) will blast to indicate 2- minute countdown.

At 1 minute, a series of short siren blasts will sound to indicate 1 minute remaining
Around 5 minutes after the event, one long siren blast to indicate “all clear” (roads and waterways
begin to be reopened).
