Several people were injured Sunday in a multi-vehicle highway collision.
According to the Mansfield Firefighter Union, at just after 11:45 a.m. Mansfield Engine 32 and Rescue 36, along with companies from Norton Fire and Taunton Brewster EMS, responded to I-495 Northbound at mile marker 27.6 for a motor vehicle accident.
Massachusetts State Police also responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, companies located a three-car motor vehicle accident, with two vehicles in the median and one vehicle in the woods on the breakdown-lane side of the highway.
Two patients were trapped inside their vehicles and required extrication. Firefighters utilized the Jaws of Life to safely extricate both patients. During extrication, Mansfield Car 32 responded with two units of whole blood to intercept with Rescue 36, but was canceled while en route.
Two patients were transported to Rhode Island Hospital, while a third patient was transported to BMC-South for further evaluation.
