24-year-old Rhode Island man being remembered after fatal shooting

Police are investigating, family and friends are reminiscing, after a Rhode Island man was found shot to death.

According to police, on Wednesday at 8:15 p.m., officers responded to the area of Garfield Street and Fuller Avenue in Central Falls for reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found one male later identified as 24-year-old Leony Cabrera of Central Falls seated in the driver’s seat of a white Toyota that had crashed into a parked vehicle. He was deceased from sustained gunshot wounds.

Officers then located a 2nd victim identified as a 24-year-old adult male suffering from gunshot wounds who was later transported by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Members of the detective bureau continue to work the case in conjunction with the Rhode Island State Police BCI Unit and members of the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office.

Cabrera was being remembered Thursday for being a funny and humble man with a huge heart. According to family he is the father of a young daughter.
