24 indicted in Providence drug sweep
After possibly the biggest heroin bust in the state’s history, Providence Police focused their efforts on cocaine. The results were multiple arrests.
The Providence Police undertook what they called Operation Street Sweep. The investigation led to 24 indictments with 19 arrested and held without bail for street level crack/cocaine distribution. 22 had previous drug charges and 11 had previous gun charges.
In a press conference, Mayor Elorza applauded the department’s efforts. In the previous press conference concerning the heroin bust, Elorza lamented that the arrest and drug seizure saved area lives.
