MIDDLEBOROUGH — Family members have released the name of a 23-year-old man who died in a fatal motor vehicle crash on Monday morning.

At just before 11:45 a.m., Middleborough Police responded to Fuller Street, near the Halifax and Middleborough town line, for a report of a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, first responders observed a 2015 white GMC pickup truck that had struck a tree and was flipped over into marsh water. The sole occupant, a 23-year-old male from Bridgewater, was ejected into the water in a small brook beside the road.

According to an obituary and family members, Jack Fortune was known for being an old soul and sincere human being who was kind and sweet, but strong.

“His parents will forever embrace their shared love of skiing, all things wheels, and watching the beauty of a thunderstorm. His sisters remember him always being there for them unconditionally. There was no bias in who Jack extended his heart to. He loved helping people and was a good friend to all.

“Jack had an innovative mind and an innate curiosity for life. He was a self-educated problem solver with a superlative work ethic. From the very beginning he was a hands-on person in all aspects; from building complicated Lego sets…to constructing a backyard motocross track as a result of his love of dirt bike riding…to a lifelong passion of outdoor adventures, and more. At age 15 Jack started a successful landscaping business. He was in high demand due to his honesty, integrity, authenticity and dedication to providing his best. He was hard-working, creative, mechanically inclined, and inspired – there was no challenge too big to tackle.”

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater, MA 02324 from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Funeral services will remain private.

Middleborough Police are investigating the crash with assistance from the State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
