21-year-old Fall River man indicted, arraigned on murder and gun charges concerning double homicide
A now 21-year-old Fall River man pled not guilty and was held without bail for his alleged role in a city double murder.
Jeremy Holmes was arraigned Thursday on two murder charges, assault and battery with a firearm, and carrying a firearm without a license, according to court records.
Fall River Police received 911 calls at just before 4:30 p.m. on May 17, 2021, for a report of shots fired in the vicinity of Griffin Park.
When first responders arrived on scene, they located two victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The two victims, Jovaughn Antonio Mills, 29, of Fall River and Miguel Sanjurjo, 14, of Fall River, were rushed to Saint Anne’s Hospital and Charlton Memorial Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The third shooting victim, a 19-year-old man from Fall River, was transported to Saint Anne’s Hospital via a private vehicle. The victim was then transported to Rhode Island Hospital for further treatment and has since recovered.
According to prosecutors, the weapon found at the scene of the shooting where 13 shots were fired was owned by Holmes.
Video surveillance was recovered concerning the shooting.
Holmes’ attorney previously stated that his client had no criminal record and that the gun in question is not Holmes’ property.
Police chief at the time, Jeffrey Cardoza stated that the shooting occurred on the sidewalk near the black fencing of Griffin Park.
A second defendant connected to the incident, Dana Mazyck of Fall River, was apprehended on May 25, 2021, in Fall River by members of District Attorney Quinn’s Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit and Fall River Police detectives. He was charged with carrying an illegal firearm, carrying a loaded illegal firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
Holmes next appearance in court is scheduled for July 17th.
