20-year-old MA man dead, another 20-year-old MA man seriously injured in Route 290 crash

One Massachusetts man is dead, and another is seriously injured after a crash on Sunday.

According to Massachusetts State Police, at 8:54 a.m., Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to the Holden Barracks responded to a car that went off exit 30A on Route 290 into the wood line in Northborough. The crash resulted in fatal injuries to the driver.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2007 Jeep Wrangler was eastbound on Route 290 taking exit 30A when, for reasons still under investigation, it exited the left side of the exit and struck several trees.

The operator, Elijah Pye, a 20-year-old male from the Cherry Valley neighborhood of Leicester, was removed from the vehicle and transported to UMass Lakeside Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The passenger also a 20-year-old male from the Cherry Valley neighborhood of Leicester was transported with serious injuries to UMass Lakeside Hospital.

Elijah is being remembered as a special young man that had a big contagious smile and passed it on to those around him.

A GoFundMe page has raised over $11,000 as of this writing. A memorial fund has also been created in Elijah’s name on Venmo.

Elijah’s family, friends, and former high school football teammates are holding a vigil tonight, at 8:00 p.m. on the Leicester Town Common.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop C of the Massachusetts State Police.

Troopers were assisted on scene by Northborough Fire.

The scene was cleared by approximately 9:50 a.m.
