20-year-old driver arrested after wrong-way crash involving three vehicles
A woman has been arrested after a serious wrong-way crash Thursday.
According to Rhode Island State Police, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Troopers from the Lincoln Woods Barracks, as well as members from the Providence Fire Department, responded to a crash involving three vehicles on Route 146 South in the City of Providence.
Troopers arrived on the scene just north of the Admiral Street off ramp and observed three vehicles with heavy damage. After further investigation, it was learned that a silver Nissan was traveling north in the southbound lanes of Rout 146. The silver Nissan then sideswiped a vehicle in the high-speed lane before striking a second vehicle in the low-speed lane. A passenger was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries.
Further investigation revealed that the wrong-way operator was under the influence of alcohol. 20-year-old Dulcelena Tavares, of Pawtucket, was arrested and charged with 1.) Driving Under the Influence BAC Greater than .15, (1st Phase .196, 2nd Phase .193) 1st offense, 2.) Driving to Endanger Resulting in Physical Injury. She was also issued several traffic violations.
