2 of 6 Massachusetts communities in the red are on South Coast, hospitalizations and active cases continue decline

Massachusetts saw a decrease in cases, active cases, average positive test rate, and hospitalizations in Thursday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 616 more positive cases announced today, a decrease from Wednesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate decreased from 1.25% to 1.15%, the lowest since October 8th.

Massachusetts had seen 626 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 655,350 with 10 reported dead (9 confirmed, 1 probable) for a total of 17,722 (17,366 confirmed, 356 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 22,116,958 after 76,716 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths increased by 0.6 to 6.0. Yesterday’s rate was the lowest since the beginning of the pandemic. At the beginning of February, the average death rate was 70+.

Estimated active cases saw a decrease by 800+ to 15,833. In the last 22 days, active cases have decreased by almost 18,400.

Hospitalizations have increased in 91 of the last 185 days, but saw a decrease of 43 to lower the total to 385. Hospitalizations have decreased in 20 of the last 23 days after a period of mainly increases. There were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. Thursday’s total of 385 active hospitalizations was the lowest since October 25th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the May 13th report, Fall River has a 19.7 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (21.4 last week). New Bedford, who has the highest rate in Bristol County, saw a decrease to 29.1 (was 32.0). Westport saw a decrease to 11.1 (was 19.2), Swansea is at 14.8, a decrease, and was 17.0 last week. Somerset saw an increase as they sit at 14.3 (was 13.9). Freetown stands at 9.5, a decrease from 16.6. Dartmouth is currently at 13.3, a decrease from last week’s 19.4. Acushnet increased to 24.6 (was 23.9). Berkley is at 10.5 and was 22.0 last week.

6 Massachusetts communities are still in the red (high risk) which is down from 13 last week. 26 were in the red the week before. Acushnet, Edgartown, Lawrence, Lowell, New Bedford, and Taunton.

Massachusetts Officials have issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on May 13th.
