19-year-old from Massachusetts facing several charges after damaging 19 headstones
A 19-year-old Massachusetts teen is facing several charges after destroying over a half-dozen head stones at a cemetery.
According to police, on Saturday morning just before 1:45 a.m., while on patrol in the area of St. Mary’s Cemetery, on Bridge Rd, Northampton Officers located a vehicle with heavy front-end damage and the operator, a 19-year-old male, from Holyoke.
The investigation revealed that while traveling westbound on Bridge Road, the male driver left the travel lane and crashed into the cemetery. In total, 19 headstones were damaged in addition to the cemetery grounds.
Police stated that the male showed signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for OUI liquor. He is to be charged with OUI Alcohol, Open Container of Alcohol in a motor vehicle, Failure to wear seatbelt, and Speed greater than reasonable. The name of the suspect was not released.
