19-year-old facing several charges in Route 44 crash that seriously injured motorcycle rider

A 19-year-old has been charged in an accident that took place Thursday morning that seriously injured a motorcycle rider.

According to Deputy Chief of Police Brian Ramos, at approximately 6:00 a.m., the Rehoboth Police Department responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash on Winthrop Street (Route 44) in the area of 257.

When officers arrived on scene, they discovered that a motorcycle had been struck from the rear by another motor vehicle while they were both traveling eastbound on Winthrop Street.

The operator of the motorcycle has been identified as a 68-year-old male from East Providence who was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

The operator of the second motor vehicle was not injured and has been identified as Gyanna Kirwin, also from East Providence.

Kirwin is facing several criminal motor vehicle charges related to the crash including negligent operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating an uninsured and unregistered motor vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Rehoboth Police Department Detective Unit.
