On Friday, a teenager was arrested concerning a fatal crash on Cape Cod.
According to Massachusetts State Police, shortly before 7:00 p.m., troopers from the State Police Bourne Barracks responded to a multiple-car, fatal crash at the base of the Sagamore Bridge on Route 6 west.
Preliminary information indicates that 19-year-old Paul Myers of Plymouth was driving in the left lane when he attempted to pass a vehicle in front of him illegally by shifting into the right lane. While attempting to change lanes, Myers’ vehicle did not have enough clearance and crashed into a Toyota Corolla already traveling in the right lane. As a result of the contact, the Toyota Corolla hit the curb and spun across the median and crashed into a car traveling in the opposite direction.
The head on collision resulted in the death of a 79-year-old woman, Martha Sheldon of Plymouth, who was the passenger of the Toyota Corolla, as well as serious injuries to the 83-year-old, male operator of the same vehicle.
For the safety of motorists, investigators, and highway workers, officials closed both lanes of travel to the Cape (Route 6 east) and the left lane of travel off the Cape (Route 6 west) for several hours. In addition to troopers from Troop D, Bourne Fire and Rescue, MassDOT, State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section, and State Police Crime Scene Services Section responded to the scene.
Following the crash, Myers was taken into custody for suspected operating under the influence (drugs).
Massachusetts State Police offered condolences to Sheldon’s loved ones.
The crash remains under investigation.

Don’t drink and drive and don’t do drugs
“Thinking”
RIP, to the person Killed.
Looks like we are not going out or driving after 6:00PM, in ‘Massghanistan’.
Very Sad, ‘Massghanistan’.
That’s just it these young kids don’t care about the roads and think they can pass anywhere and anybody what a sad think to read rip to the dear older lady that was killed by a teenager! 😢
I don’t think it’s “young kids” that are the problem! It’s driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Nah it’s deff the people who drink and think they can do what ever they want💀 rip
What is a “Massghanistan”?
Something made up by someone who did not read the article.
And who are you douchebag?
My deepest sympathy for the victim that was killed here due to the carelessness of another young driver under the influence of drugs and in a hurry most likely.
So sad.
I pray for the other gentleman to heal quickly from his injuries 🙏 .God please hear Our prayers 🙏 ❤️
So sad that a Fatality occurred do to an irresponsible young driver that only thought about getting to where he needed to be. Glad person was caught do to witnesses and cameras. Condolences to the Family of deceased.
Actions have consequences…Heaven has gained another Angel due to negligence. Prayers for the other passenger and deepest sympathies to the family that now is mourning the loss of a loved one.
So sad, I hope when they build the new bridge they put a divider in the middle. It’s dangerous and needs to be safer. However, the teen was a bad driver and doing an illegal move! I hope they take away his llisence
That’s a great idea
It is definitely scary out there and it is everywhere. Almost if not every day. From the highways, to the routes, to the side roads and even parking lots like stop and shop, the mall, etc. but I don’t know the answer except I.pray.
I specially told that young and teenagers drivers should not drinking alcohol, using drugs and cigarettes. Be remember that roads is a common pathway of pedestrians, motorists, heavy trucks, public bus and cars .
So sad. I haven’t been to the Cape for a few years. It is NO place for the outrageous driving maneuvers that have become commonplace everywhere else. I avoid easily 5 accidents a day. I look in the rear mirror signal on and as I turn the wheel some yeehaw has sped into that slot momentarily. The driver of the Toyota in this case had NO options-and that makes me mad. I have a piece of paper in my car that states “it was NOT my fault!” I guess I should just get a camera.
