19-year-old driver arrested by Massachusetts State Police after Cape Cod crash that killed 1, seriously injured another
On Friday, a teenager was arrested concerning a fatal crash on Cape Cod.
According to Massachusetts State Police, shortly before 7:00 p.m., troopers from the State Police Bourne Barracks responded to a multiple-car, fatal crash at the base of the Sagamore Bridge on Route 6 west.
Preliminary information indicates that 19-year-old Paul Myers of Plymouth was driving in the left lane when he attempted to pass a vehicle in front of him illegally by shifting into the right lane. While attempting to change lanes, Myers’ vehicle did not have enough clearance and crashed into a Toyota Corolla already traveling in the right lane. As a result of the contact, the Toyota Corolla hit the curb and spun across the median and crashed into a car traveling in the opposite direction.
The head on collision resulted in the death of a 79-year-old woman, Martha Sheldon of Plymouth, who was the passenger of the Toyota Corolla, as well as serious injuries to the 83-year-old, male operator of the same vehicle.
For the safety of motorists, investigators, and highway workers, officials closed both lanes of travel to the Cape (Route 6 east) and the left lane of travel off the Cape (Route 6 west) for several hours. In addition to troopers from Troop D, Bourne Fire and Rescue, MassDOT, State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section, and State Police Crime Scene Services Section responded to the scene.
Following the crash, Myers was taken into custody for suspected operating under the influence (drugs).
Massachusetts State Police offered condolences to Sheldon’s loved ones.
The crash remains under investigation.

I don’t think it’s “young kids” that are the problem! It’s driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

So sad, I hope when they build the new bridge they put a divider in the middle. It’s dangerous and needs to be safer. However, the teen was a bad driver and doing an illegal move! I hope they take away his llisence

It is definitely scary out there and it is everywhere. Almost if not every day. From the highways, to the routes, to the side roads and even parking lots like stop and shop, the mall, etc. but I don’t know the answer except I.pray.

So sad. I haven’t been to the Cape for a few years. It is NO place for the outrageous driving maneuvers that have become commonplace everywhere else. I avoid easily 5 accidents a day. I look in the rear mirror signal on and as I turn the wheel some yeehaw has sped into that slot momentarily. The driver of the Toyota in this case had NO options-and that makes me mad. I have a piece of paper in my car that states “it was NOT my fault!” I guess I should just get a camera.
