A senior Massachusetts high school football star has died after a serious early morning crash.

According to police, at 3:00 a.m., the Marblehead Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle that had gone off the causeway. Within minutes, Marblehead Police and Fire units arrived and located a vehicle, approximately halfway down the causeway, on the harbor side, with extensive damage and one person inside.

That individual, later identified as eighteen-year-old James Galante, of Marblehead, was treated on scene and transported by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Police Chief Dennis King just released a statement concerning the crash.

“On behalf of the entire Marblehead Police Department, I would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of 18-year-old James Galante, of Marblehead, who tragically died this afternoon from his injuries suffered in a motor vehicle crash early this morning.

This will surely have a great impact on our tightknit community, and we are working closely with the Marblehead School District to ensure they will be supported in the coming days and weeks.

We ask that the media give the Galante family privacy during this difficult time.”

Galante was part of the undefeated Super Bowl winning Marblehead High School football team and had announced he would be playing college football next year.

Anyone with information related to the fatal crash should contact the Marblehead Police Department at 781-631-1212 and ask for Detective Sergeant Sean Brady.
