18-year-old killed in early morning crash in Middleborough described as a great kid, as online fundraiser created

Family members have released the name of a Massachusetts teen killed in a serious single-vehicle crash Sunday morning.

According to officials, at just after 2:30 a.m., Middleborough Police and Fire were dispatched to Marion Road for reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, first responders located a vehicle that appeared to have crashed into a tree with the driver of the vehicle trapped inside. The passenger of the vehicle was extracted by bystanders prior to the arrival of first responders.

Middleborough Fire used hydraulic cutting tools to extract the driver from the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old from East Bridgewater, was transported to an area hospital with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead.

The passenger of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with what were believed to be serious injuries.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser and family, Joey Saccone is the deceased.

Saccone, who was a senior at East Bridgewater according to those who knew him, was described as a great kid from a great family. A beautiful person who was always there for his friends and family.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Middleborough Police and State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
