17-year-old girl found deceased after Cape Cod boat crash causes multiple injuries

A teenage girl was found deceased after a boat crash on Cape Cod late Friday night, according to authorities.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, a joint-agency search and rescue operation began off Cold Storage Beach in Dennis after a boat crashed into the jetty at approximately 9:00 p.m.

A 17-year-old girl, was recovered, deceased, from the water by the USCG at approximately 11:30 p.m.

Six people, including the girl who sustained fatal injuries, were on the boat. The recovery of the victim from the water was made by the regional dive team with assistance from Dennis Fire-Rescue; and at least one other boat passenger, a teenage male, was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with a head laceration.

The Massachusetts State Police Marine Unit and the MSP Underwater Recovery Unit, along with Massachusetts Environmental Police marine assets, are conducting dive operations at the crash site today to search for debris from the boat, in furtherance of the investigation.

The death investigation is being conducted by the State Police Detective Unit for the Cape and Islands District, the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office, and Dennis Police with the assistance of the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

The Dennis Fire Department had incident command. The water search was being conducted by the US Coast Guard, the Barnstable County Dive Team, and Sandwich Fire marine assets. Massachusetts State Police patrols and detectives also responded.
